If you have a full-size spare, you're parked somewhere safe and flat, and you know how to use the jack, changing it yourself is quick and free. Most cars today come with a compact "donut" spare, not a full-size one. Donuts are built for limited use only — typically a low speed limit and a short distance, just enough to get to a shop. They offer less grip and no long-term safety. If you're far from home or it's raining, a donut is a stopgap, not a solution.
